Foundation Workshop

I hope you all enjoyed the Yoga Foundation Workshop and that you all learnt something new about your posture, breath and mind connection

We discussed the difference between Collapse Propping and Yielding
We all have times in our life’s and even in our day that we can find ourselves collapsing  and propping
collapse – belly breathing, falling heavy with gravity, weight of the world on your shoulders, sadness and depression
propping – chest breathing, bracing against gravity, tensing moving fast on adrenals, leading to eventually crashing exhausted, stress and anxiety
If you can use your understand of yield to connect with your breath to come back to a balance then it might just help you cope and deal with the situation better and see clearer

The next workshop will move into Spinal movement and Core
in early November date to come
you will be given first option to book in before tickets go on sale

Sleep Sound With Yoga

Stress and anxiety can be some of the key causes to sleeplessness
most of us know this, but what do we do about it?

Restore Poses

So many people talk about their struggle to sleep and yet at the same time feel exhausted, they want and need to sleep but when they lie down their minds are so busy and their eyes’ just wont close.

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone.
As we become busier and distracted in our outside world with family, work and relationships, our inner world gets stressed as well.
We run until our body and mind have been pushed to the limits and we only stop because we get sick, physically and/or mentally.

Restore Yoga is the relearning of how to relax, that has been lost somewhere in the hectic pace of life.

Restore and Yin Yoga shows us how to slow down, to feel deep supportive stretching, slower movement and restore our nervous system.
Taking the nervous system from sympathetic – flight and flee to parasympathetic – rest and digest.
Where we can rejuvenate and in turn the various systems in our bodies can reset. Then we can begin to heal mentally and physically.
Yin Poses

Here are Jenny’s tips to help you sleep on and off the mat:

  1. A gentle walk late afternoon/early evening
  2. Gentle stretches before going to bed with a cup of chamomile tea
  3. Breathe – breathe in for a count of 4 and out for 6 (repeat as often as needed)
  4. If you wake up during the night and find it hard to get back to sleep maybe try the breathing in for 4 and out for 6 again
  5. If you are still awake, getting up for a warm drink may help and maybe doing some light reading, not the thriller you just bought! 😊
  6. Journaling is another good resource to use at this time, write down what has got your attention and keep going until it is all on the paper and out of your head
  7. If you have a ‘to do’ list swirling around in your head, once again get it down on paper and tell yourself you have now made a list that you can go through in the morning.
  8. Sometimes when I can’t sleep I repeat a mantra over and over, and more often than not it will put me into a beautiful deep sleep – my mantra of choice at the moment is Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram, meaning – beloved Ram (god or whatever name is right for you), I honour you. If you would like to listen to a Kirtan version, here is one from Krishna Das  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryDkPJFD6oo  The mantra starts at about 4 mins in, I put my headphones on and it feels like I am surrounded by this beautiful feeling of love. It  touches me deeply and I first learnt this mantra doing an online Meditation and Mantra course through Ram Dass.

We hope these tips may help you sleep a little better

6.30am Yoga to fire up the digestion and boost brain power

Are you an early riser, do you love the quietness of sunrise maybe before your household gets busy or perhaps it's the only time you get to do some thing for yourself.
We now offer 2 early yoga sessions to get you warmed up and moving to start your day

6.30 - 7.30am online yoga classes,
Tuesday heat up and Friday warm up

Why start your day with Yoga?
There are many advantages to starting your day with yoga

  1. Rather than waking to an alarm and jumping out of bed and ramping up the nervous system, take a moment to breathe, move a little slower and bring yourself to the mat. Keeping the nervous system calm and in turn your mind, body and emotions.
  2. Bring clarity to your day.
Start your yoga practice with a moment to focus on your breath, try practicing a breathing technique such as ujjayi breath
Set an intention for your practice or for the day, week or year. Could simply be an intention of gratitude for the sunrise or rain, a moment of thankfulness' for having time for yourself to do yoga.
  3. Morning yoga boosts the body’s metabolism as it pumps up the circulatory system and fires up the digestive system or Agni.
So you will absorb the minerals and vitamins from your food and release toxins more efficiently
  4. Sun Salutations - Shakes off the stiffness in the body from a night of stillness, the long resting of the muscle can cause tightness and common aches and pains.
  5. Morning yoga releases the dullness and lethargy of the mind and increases focus, concentration and alertness.

With a regular morning practice you will soon begin to feel and notice the changes. Stepping into your day with a lightness and lift in your posture, feeling more present, balanced and having a positive attitude to life.

So get started and enjoy the morning

Covid Update

Restrictions have eased more in SA and we can now have equipment back in the studio.
In saying that, it is still encouraged that you consider having your own equipment, as I am sure you are aware of the situation in Australia and the possibility of changes that could occur.
So for those that have equipment on loan you may want to look into what you might need and begin ordering, then returns can happen over the coming weeks.

Nurture and Nourish – Scared Heart Pose

Scared Heart pose is a relaxing gentle position that opens the throat, heart and belly and in doing this also opens the associated energy centers -chakras.
As your throat relaxes, your throat chakra opens and starts to release any built up energy.  This chakra is involved with us speaking up and speaking our truth. Do you ever find yourself swallowing something you would like to say?

As your chest releases over the roll, you create space and expansion of the heart center. As the chakra opens, healing and loving energy begins to flow through your body.  This allows your to breathe to deepen and you absorb more life force/prana.

The softening of your belly is associated with the opening of your solar plexus – the centre of self, your will and personal power.  The quietening of the belly leads to a ‘massage of the digestive system’. What are we digesting?  Not only food, but what we watch on TV and the energy of others.

This position leads our nervous system to move from the sympathetic nervous system fight and flight to the parasympathetic nervous system of rest and digest.

Enjoy this powerful pose and I look forward to see you soon, Jen x
